The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign seeks to fill a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the area of Remote Sensing and Space Sciences. The primary function of this position to support the construction, testing, deployment, and operation of Fabry-Perot interferometers to study the dynamics of the Earth’s upper atmosphere.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  *   Oversee the construction, testing, and deployment of three Fabry-Perot Interferometers to be part of a network of optical instruments used to study the dynamics of Earth’s upper atmosphere;
  *   Analyze and interpret data collected from several optical imaging and interferometric systems currently, and soon-to-be, deployed around the world.
  *   Present results at relevant conferences and in peer-reviewed literature.
  *   Collaborate with undergraduate and graduate students, as well as other researchers in the Remote Sensing and Space Sciences group.
This position requires a Ph.D. in Engineering, Physics, or a related field. The successful candidate should possess experience in the design and use of optical sensing systems (especially interferometric and imaging) used in observing the ionosphere/thermosphere and scientific software development with modern programming languages (especially Python and C) is desired.
This is a 12-month, 100%-time appointment with applicable University benefits. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Possibility of extending the appointment is contingent upon availability of funds.
