Dear All,
We are excited to have Yolanda Gil of Information Sciences Institute
from USC to talk about 'Geoscience paper of the Future' initiative at
CEDAR workshop on *Monday 1:30pm session in Zia (Eldorado).*
The *Geoscience Paper of the Future *(GPF) Initiative was created to
encourage geoscientists to publish papers together with the associated
digital products of their research. This means that a paper would include:
1) Data available in a public repository, including documented metadata,
a clear license specifying conditions of use, and citable using a unique
and persistent identifier
2) Software available in a public repository, with documentation, a
license for reuse, and a unique and citable using a persistent identifier
3) Provenance of the results by explicitly describing the series of
computations and their outcome in a workflow sketch, a formal workflow,
or a provenance record, possibly in a shared repository and with a
unique and persistent identifier
This initiative is also part of the *NSF EarthCube* activities. At the
session on *Data Integration and Software Practices in Geospace Science*
on Monday afternoon, many current and proposed EarthCube projects will
be discussed along with other initiatives in data integration space. The
lineup is as follows:
1:30-2:15 *Yolanda Gil*: Geoscience Paper of the Future
2:15-2:30 *Tanu Malik*: Reproducibility in Geosciences/Introduction to
GeoDataspace, and EarthCube building blocks project
2:30-2:40 *Phil Erickson*: Open source Python data integration effort
2:40-2:50 *Russell Cosgrove/Todd Valentic*: Integrated Geospace
Observatory, and EarthCube integrative activity project
2:50-3:00 *Xueling Shi*: DavitPy, a Python library for SuperDARN data
processing
3:00-3:10 *T**omoko Matsuo/Liam Kilcommons*: Distributable AMIE
3:10-3:20 *Jesper Gjerlov*: Magnetosphere-Ionosphere-Atmosphere-Coupling
Project (MIAC)
3:20-3:30 *Michael Hirsch*: Curating, distributing and managing large
datasets
We look forward to enthusiastic participation from the larger CEDAR
community.
Thanks,
Asti Bhatt, Russell Cosgrove, Ennio Sanchez, Mike Ruohoniemi, Phil Erickson
