(1) Two new Geospace Section Program Directors at NSF
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
From Rich Behnke (rbehnke at nsf.gov)
I am pleased to announce that two distinguished scientists have joined the NSF
Geospace Section.
Dr. Ilia Roussev, formerly an Associate Professor of Astronomy (with tenure) at
the University of Hawaii, is now the permanent Program Director for Solar
Terrestrial Research (STR). Dr. Roussev obtained his PhD in Solar Physics from
Queen's University Belfast, Northern Ireland and worked at the University of
Michigan and at the High Altitude Observatory at NCAR before joining the
University of Hawaii. Ilia replaces Dr. Paul Bellaire who retired after more
than ten years of service last December.
In addition, Dr. Anne-Marie Schmoltner has now taken over as the permanent
Aeronomy Program Director. Dr. Schmoltner received her PhD in Chemistry from
the University of California, Berkeley. Anne-Marie has worked at NSF since
1995, first as the Program Director for Atmospheric Chemistry, then as the
Section Head for the Atmosphere Section and recently as a Program Manager in the
Office of International Science and Engineering (OISE). Anne-Marie replaces Dr.
Anja Stromme who has returned to SRI International after an all too brief
one-year term of dedicated service here at NSF.
Please join me in welcoming Ilia and Anne-Marie to our Section!
Rich Behnke,
Head Geospace Section, AGS/GEO
