The restart pointer file helps your simulation keep track of where
it is so that it can restart. It doesn't effect history output files,
and is only needed when you do a restart run later. The casename is contained
in the restart pointer filename, so provided your different cases have different
casenames -- you'll be fine. If you were trying to do different cases with
the same casename -- you would run into trouble because of the restart
pointer files (and because of Mass Store collisions).
