Dear Elena ,

WRF in default namelist options won’t update lower boundary SST, so in the
first case,  the option “sst_update =1” enable WRF to update SST from
supplied FNL/GFS Boundary files. Generally this option will be used for
long simulations like seasonal forecasts.

In Second case, "prefix = 'SST' in namelist of WPS : SST in FNL/GFS initial
and boundary conditions will replaced by the others sources of SST such as
GHRSST
