[Wrf-users] wrfout timing issues with adaptive time stepping in WRF 3.2

Hi again all. . .

I've run up against another issue with WRF 3.2, and while I've got a
request for help with wrfhelp, I thought I'd also check with wrf-users.
This is using a setup that is essentially the same as what has worked
fine with previous versions of WRF, so I think it's something new with
WRF 3.2.

At the bottom of this email is an example of a namelist.input where I
see my problem. This is a model run with 4 domains, and where d04 has
output every 20 minutes. As you can see, I'm using adaptive time
stepping, with adjust_output_times and step_to_output_time both set to
true.

The wrfout files are getting written, and the file names reflect the
time that I want them written at, but when I use ncdump to look at the
actual time it was saved at, it shows a different time. For example:

File name:	wrfout_d04_2009-12-14_20:20:00

>From ncdump:
	Times =
	  "2009-12-14_20:20:50" ;

As you can see, the internal time is off by 50 seconds (which is not
reflected in the file name). I'm using WPP v3.2 and a slightly modified
version of the run_wrfpost_minutes script, and it can't handle the
discrepancy in the times properly.

Presumably I could add another post-processing step, where I simply
reset the Times variable in the wrfout to the value I want. For most
purposes I don't think that this should cause any problems, but it just
feels like such a nasty sort of hack that I'm a bit resistant to that
approach. Plus if I ever want to do something where I'm differencing or
averaging wrfout's, then this will introduce additional errors (though
small in most instances).

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Mike
