We have two employment opportunities at Mississippi State University,

campus in Starkville, away from the destruction on the coast, so housing
and infrastructure is not a problem.

Research Associate II/Meteorologist in the GeoResources Institute within
the ERC at Mississippi State University.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Conduct research activities on Gulf Coast tropical cyclones
2. Perform model coupling tropical cyclone simulations
3. Perform data assimilation variational analysis experiments using
satellite, aircraft reconnaissance, and in-situ data
4. Assist PI with monthly reports and staff supervision
5. Pursue research partnerships
6. Ensure maximum distribution of research findings in extension
publications, scientific, peer-reviewed and lay publications and forums

Minimum Qualifications

A Master of Science in atmospheric science or equivalent scientific
field; Demonstrated background in numerical modeling, weather analysis,
forecasting, and tropical meteorology; Peer-review publication
experience; Knowledge of advanced assimilation techniques, especially
3DVAR and 4DVAR applications to NASA and NOAA satellite data; Programming
experience with some of the following: MM5, WRF, FORTRAN, C, shell
scripts, ESMF, NCAR Graphics, GRADs, MATLAB, GMT, GEMPAK, and VIS5D

6. Ensure maximum distribution of research findings in extension
publications, scientific, peer-reviewed and lay publications and forums.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A Master of Science or Ph.D. in atmospheric science or equivalent
