[ncl-talk] How to interpret the confidence level of spectral analysis

Dear all,

In NCL’s example about spectral analysis, there are 5% and 95% confidence levels. For example, the figure drawn by this script http://www.ncl.ucar.edu/Applications/Scripts/spec_5.ncl and shown in this link http://www.ncl.ucar.edu/Applications/Images/spec_5_2_lg.png.

For the figure, I understand that the period of 40-80 month is significant because it exceeds the 95% bound, but the period 10-20 month is also below the 5% bound. Does it mean that the period of 10-20 month is also significant?

Thank you.

Best wishes,
Lin Wang
