Hi,
I would like to start a conversation about the function *wgt_vert_avg_beta*.
The documentation gives an overview of its basic purpose and refers to a
journal article, listed as "Climate Diagnostics from Global Analyses:
Conservation of Mass ....

Kevin Trenberth

July, 1991, pp 707-

but I still have some questions about how the pressure top and pressure
depths are computed. Because it is a "built-in" and not a "contributed" NCL
function, I'm not sure how to check the source code.

The journal article itself seems to have a mistake in it (delta-p
associated with p1 in Fig. 1 should be 175 mb, not 125 mb), although I may
have missed something.

I also have some simple examples that illustrate odd results.
