The Atmospheric Sciences and Global Change Division at Pacific Northwest
National Laboratory (PNNL) is recruiting a research scientist and a
postdoctoral scientist to conduct innovative research in modeling
terrestrial hydrology in Earth System Models.

*1. Research Scientist – Modeling Terrestrial Hydrology in the Earth system*

PNNL is recruiting a research scientist to advance modeling and
understanding of terrestrial hydrological processes in the Earth system.
The successful candidate will conduct research to improve representation of
surface/subsurface hydrologic processes focusing on one or more of the
following areas: soil hydrology, riverine processes, terrestrial-aquatic
interactions, carbon-hydrology interactions, and the coupled human-natural
processes. Combined with observations, the candidate will also work with a
team of PNNL scientists to design, perform, and analyze modeling
experiments to understand the role of terrestrial hydrological processes in
the Earth system, including their response and feedback to perturbations.

Qualifications: A Ph.D. degree in hydrological sciences, environmental and
civil engineering or related fields. Experience with hydrologic modeling
and high performance computing will be considered favorably during the
evaluation.

Applications should include:

· Cover letter describing the applicant’s research experience and
interests.

· Curriculum vitae with a list of publications in refereed journals.

· Names and addresses of three references.

Interested candidates may send further inquiries to Ruby Leung (
Ruby.Leung at pnnl.gov).

*2. Postdoctoral Scientist – Modeling Hydrologic Response to Human
Activities*

PNNL is recruiting a postdoctoral scientist to improve modeling of the
hydrologic response to human activities such as land use land cover change,
irrigation, water management, and energy production and use. The successful
candidate will advance a modeling framework consisting of a land surface
model coupled with a river model and a water management model as part of an
Earth system model for high-resolution modeling. Working with PNNL
scientists, the candidate will also develop diagnostics and metrics to
understand and quantify model skill and elucidate key processes dominating
the hydrologic response to human activities and potential feedbacks.

The position is for two years and renewable contingent upon performance. A
Ph.D. in Hydrology, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Geoscience, or
related subjects is required. Applications should include:

* Cover letter describing the applicant’s research experience and interests.

* Curriculum vitae with a list of publications in refereed journals.

* Names and addresses of three references.

Interested candidates can obtain additional information from L. Ruby Leung (
Ruby.Leung at pnnl.gov <ruby.leung at pnnl.gov>).
