* The next **Engaged Scientist Series lecture & workshop is set for January
19, 2017*-*Uses and Practices of Community Dialogue in Geosciences and
Environmental Sciences*

As communities increasingly grapple with problems of resiliency and
environmental health and safety, scientists who are prepared to help are
needed. The Engaged Scientist series of free public talks and associated
workshops for graduate students and postdoctoral researchers aims to equip
scientists with community engagement skills.

Boulder Talks directors Phaedra Pezzullo and Leah Sprain of the CU College
for Media, Communication and Information (CMCI) will give a public lecture
on fostering community dialogue from 4 to 5 PM in SEEC N290 (RSVP requested
but not required).

Drs. Pezzullo, Sprain, and CIRES Education Outreach Director
Susan Sullivan will then co-lead the associated workshop for
graduate students and postdocs from 5:30 to 8:30 PM in SEEC
N290 (Pre-registration required, dinner is provided for
workshop participants).

Workshop topics include:

   - Discussing the possibilities and limitations around science,
   communication and democracy
   - Analyzing real world transcripts of scientists communicating during
   community dialogues
   - Practicing framing your research with feedback to help you move
   towards your goals

Both events will be hosted in the Sustainability Innovation Lab at Colorado
(SILC), room N290 at SEEC (Sustainability, Energy, and Environment Complex)
on the CU Boulder east campus.
