Inês, Shaz, Vanessa,

Below is an announcement for a post-doc at a group at Cambridge that I work
closely with. The theme is environmental catastrophe, or more specifically
"ecological tipping points, climate change and multi-scalar risks". They're
open to natural and social scientists and have a policy orientation, so an
EPP-type could be a great fit. Perhaps you could forward this if you know
of any potential candidates.

Thanks, and I hope all is well with you!

Seth

The Centre for the Study of Existential Risk (CSER, http://cser.org) at
Cambridge University
http://cser.org/cser-is-recruiting-postdoctoral-research-associate-fixed-term/

CSER is looking to recruit a postdoctoral research associate to work on the
project: Ecological tipping points, climate change and multi-scalar risks.

The project aims to improve our understanding of how ecological tipping
points, climate change and socio-political systems interact with each
other. Interested applicants will be asked to propose a research project
that contributes to these aims. The precise topic will depend on the
specific expertise of the appointee and examples are contained in the
Further Information. Relevant disciplines include: biology, ecology,
conservation, mathematical modelling, planetary science, anthropology,
psychology, human geography, decision and policy sciences.

Applicants are encouraged to generate their own ideas and break new
research ground, within the general remit of the centre. Examples of
relevant topics (for illustrative purposes only) include:

- An assessment of the nature of tipping points, of ways of identifying
them, and of the policy challenges of responding to uncertain thresholds,
- an assessment of extreme risks associated with escalating sea level rise,
- the potential for feedback effects to aggravate the interplay between
climate change and global food security, resulting in increased risk.
- a more focussed assessment of an issue, process or system with global
importance, such as
1 the fire sensitivity of tropical forests,
2 specific positive feedback processes, such as how salinisation hinders
vegetation growth, leading to increased evaporation, in turn resulting in
further salinisation, or,
3 the effects on oceanic ecosystems and foodstocks stemming from
acidification.

Please refer questions to Ms. Dikey Ghung at ddg22 at cam.ac.uk.

Closing date: 11 May 2016.
