Morning, folks.

Please see the call below for CO Front Range mentors for a cohort of female
geoscientist undergrads. If you know of anyone who would be interested,
please spread the word! I'll also be putting this in Staff Notes.

cheers
Carolyn

Subject: Female Front Range mentors needed for college-level students
To: cgd-etal <cgd-etal at ucar.edu>

Hi All,

A team from CSU lead by professor of atmospheric sciences Emily Fischer
have received a $1.7 million grant from NSF to increase the participation
of women in the geosciences by offering mentorship to female undergraduate
students interested in higher education and careers in the geosciences.

Starting in Fall of 2015, the team will recruit 50 first-year female
students from CSU, the University of Colorado-Boulder, and the University
of Wyoming to attend a workshop where they will learn about educational and
career opportunities and meet peers with similar interests. The team will
simultaneously recruit a cohort of students from the University of North
Carolina Charlotte, Duke University, and the University of South Carolina.
>From there, the students will be mentored in person by local scientists. In
addition, female students will have access to a web platform that will
enable national-scale peer mentoring.

*The program is still looking for Colorado Front Range mentors.*

If you would like to be a mentor (or would like more information about the
program), please email your contact information to Ilana Pollack at
ipollack at rams.colostate.edu ; please reference “mentor” in the subject line.

Yaga
