*Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Climate Dynamics)*

The George Mason University, Center for Ocean-Land-Atmosphere Studies (COLA)
in the College of Science seeks a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work on
the National Science Foundation/U.S. Department of Agriculture project
entitled, “Land Use Change and Land-Atmosphere Feedback Processes as
Regulators of Regional Climate Change.”

The project will explore how regional changes in land use over the coming
decades could alter land-atmosphere interactions against the backdrop of a
warming climate. Specifically, important climate processes over land will
be examined with observational data and climate models to quantify: (1) the
relationships between soil moisture, vegetation, and surface fluxes; (2)
the connection between surface fluxes and the development of the
atmospheric boundary layer, clouds and precipitation; and (3) the role of
the biogeophysical elements in these processes.

*Qualifications: *
A Ph.D. in atmospheric sciences, hydrology, or a related discipline is
required. The successful candidate will conduct coupled land-atmosphere
modeling, assessment of climate sensitivity to variations at the land
surface, and the role of component models and parameterizations in
land-atmosphere feedbacks. Familiarity with coding and running global
climate models and land-surface schemes is necessary. Computer programming
skills and familiarity with UNIX will be necessary.

The position will involve direct collaboration with colleagues at the
National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR).

For full consideration, applicants must apply for position number F9879z at
http://jobs.gmu.edu/; complete and submit the online application; and
upload a cover letter, CV, and a list of three professional references with
contact information by 27 January 2015.
