*Building Your Personal Brand and Platform*

*May 2; 9-10:30 am*

*CG4-2020*

*Featuring author James Marshall Reilly*

In an increasingly dynamic world, notions of life-long employment in a
single place are fading quickly. As a result, it has become more important
than ever to build, highlight, and distinguish one's skills and passions,
amplifying them in ways that tell your distinctive story using a host of
traditional and especially new (social) media techniques. The Office of
Communications will host a small, private workshop featuring entrepreneur
and journalist James Marshall Reilly. Together, we will be exploring the
successful tools required for highlighting each of our own unique stories
and capabilities as a means to greater career and personal impact and
success.

James Marshall Reilly set out on a mission to find out exactly how the most
successful of this generation—top business leaders, ideators, humanitarians
and social entrepreneurs—have defined and achieved success. And what he
discovered is that we have landed in a new place not only in terms of
generational expectations and new technology, but in terms of education,
perceived limitations, and the job market as well. Now he’s sharing what he
has learned other people—how professionals in all walks of life can achieve
a higher level of success in this new marketplace.

His book, S*hake the World: It’s Not About Finding a Job, It’s About
Creating a Life* (Penguin/Portfolio, January, 2011), features in-depth
interviews with Tony Hsieh (Zappos), Doug Ulman (CEO and President of
LIVESTRONG),Bobby Chang (Founder of Incase, the largest supplier/designer
of Apple cases in the world), Elizabeth Gore (Executive Director of Global
Partnerships at the United Nations Foundation), and Blake Mycoskie (Founder
of TOMS), along with many of the other top entrepreneurs, business leaders,
philanthropists, social entrepreneurs, and humanitarians on the planet.
What he learned was that despite their different fields of interest,
they’re all using similar tools to seize opportunities and redefine success.

Space is limited. If you can join us on May 2, please RSVP to Shllo Hall at
shall at ucar.edu. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Thanks,
David
