Hi all,

The ASP Seminar Series continues tomorrow morning, Weds. Feb. 16th, with
a talk by Dr. T. N. Krishnamurti, professor emeritus in the Dept. of
Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Science at Florida State University. Dr.
Krishnamurti, or Krish as he is better known, will be speaking on the
dynamics and prediction of hurricanes. The abstract for his talk is
included below.

The seminar will be held at 11:00 am in FL2-1022. Everyone is invited to
lunch with Krish after the seminar in FL2-1003.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions, and we hope
to see you all tomorrow!

Thanks,
-Clark
(on behalf of the entire ASP seminar committee)

---------------
Abstract:

The first part of this talk will address departures from balance laws
in the inner core of hurricanes, this relates to examples of cloud flare
ups along the inner eye wall, rapid growth of low level convergence
beneath such cloud systems, growth of departures from balance laws and
rapid intensification of hurricanes from a related generation of
supergradient winds. Major inner core observational requirements are
suggested from this analysis. The second half of this talk is on
hurricane track and intensity forecasts using a Modified Ships Algorithm
and from the use of a suite of Mesoscale Model Ensembles.
