Description

The Geoscience Advisor position is intended to be a rotational / multi-functional assignment where the individual would be expected to be in the role approximately 2 years. The role is responsible for framing, advising on, and implementing solutions related to the subsurface and technology space as it relates to Geology, Geophysics & Reservoir Engineering (GGRE) IT Global Service's remit of applications, data management, geospatial, and analytics support. This position will act as a principal support for the data science activities of the GGRE IT Global Services group and will be a principal advisor on the geoscience aspects of data management, geospatial, analytics, and applications support.

Job duties include working with the Global GGRE Services, GGRE Business Unit IT, Global GGRE & Geospatial Applications Support team, Geospatial & Information Management. Team, Advanced Analytics, AICOE, and ESOI Data Integration & Analytics groups to incorporate standard methodologies into business workflows; and working with business units to introduce, or to enhance their use of, advanced analytics in a way that adds measurable value to the company. The job also includes ensuring the quality and accuracy of data and assisting in the defining, and implementation, of standard methodologies.

Responsibilities may include:

  *   Providing insight into Geoscience workflows and business value drivers as they relate to the functions of the GGRE IT Global Services Group
  *   Identifying areas where analytics can improve current processes and analyses within GGRE
  *   Proposing and faming solutions to high-value GGRE questions in order to improve the value of technology solutions and advanced analytics within business units
  *   Technical analysis of any proposed solutions to high-value GGRE questions
  *   Recommendations of enterprise support work flows for analytic solutions within GGRE
  *   Working with business units to improve their exposure to analytics tools, methods, and data
  *   Ensuring the quality, consistency, and accuracy of subsurface data in a timely, effective and reliable manner
  *   Researching and recommending third party software applications that have a potential direct business impact
  *   Representing ConocoPhillips' analytics, technical, and business needs within GGRE to legacy vendors
Qualifications

Basic/Required:

  *   Legally authorized to work in the United States
  *   Bachelor's degree or higher in Geology, Geophysics, other related discipline or foreign equivalent
  *   10+ years of experience working within the GGRE business space as a Geoscientist
  *   Intermediate working knowledge with Spotfire or other data visualization software
  *   Intermediate knowledge of data science and advanced analytics concepts and techniques
Preferred:

  *   Master's degree or higher in Geology or Geophysics or foreign equivalent
  *   5+ years experience with petrophysical, geological, or geophysical interpretation in direct support of hydrocarbon capture, appraisal, and development activities
  *   Demonstrated work with AI, Machine Learning, or other data science application
  *   Strong interest in applying non-linear and other unconventional techniques to problems extant in geoscience
  *   Demonstrated interest in improving the data management and analytic workflows within geoscience
  *   Ability to synthesize and present technical information in a way that is relevant to management stakeholders
  *   Strong communication skills and the ability to liaise with the following groups:
  *   Customers, Business Analysts, Data Scientists, Managers, Supervisors, and GGRE individual contributors within business units
  *   Works well under times of intense pressure and adheres to tight deadlines
  *   Must be able to prioritize requests and multi-task
  *   Ability to learn new applications and techniques quickly
  *   Takes ownership of actions and follows through on commitments
