Postdoctoral Researcher


Kansas Geological Survey

Position Overview

The Energy Research Section of Kansas Geological Survey at the University of
Kansas seeks a full-time highly motivated and collaborative postdoctoral
researcher to join a team of petroleum geoscientists.  Position is
contingent on funding; currently 14 months of funding is identified.
Continuation is dependent on additional funding opportunities.  Must be
eligible to work in the U.S. by the start date.
 

Job Description

40%- Well log and seismic interpretation, geological modeling, reservoir
characterization, resource assessment, and other types of geological
analysis on energy exploration and CO2 storage, utilizing software such as
Petrel, Petra, and others. Participate in group meetings and presentations
to external organizations.

25%-Assist in the preparation of research proposals to various funding
agencies in areas that are of national stature and relevant to Kansas.

25%-Write technical papers and publish in peer-reviewed journals.

10%-Other duties as assigned.
 

Required Qualifications

Evaluation of the following requirements will be made through (1) record of
accomplishments in resume/curriculum vitae, (2) descriptions of research and
educational experiences in cover letter, (3) information from professional
references, and (4) college transcripts.
 

1.      Ph.D. in Geoscience or related field.

2.      Demonstrated ability working on team-oriented multidisciplinary
research.

3.      Knowledge of geomechanics and petrophysics.

4.      Expertise in Petrel and Petra.

5.      Experience in resource base assessment, for example, CO2 storage
capacity.

6.      Record of peer-reviewed publications.

Preferred Qualifications

1.      Highly motivated and have demonstrated ability to work independently
to meet the deadlines.

2.      Background that complements existing strengths in energy research at
the Kansas Geological Survey.

3.      Experience with geochemical modeling.

4.      Experience with CO2 storage and EOR, understanding of CCUS.

5.      Experience with field, laboratory, or model based petroleum research
programs.
