About ECMWF
ECMWF is both a research institute and a 24/7 operational service, producing and disseminating numerical weather predictions to its Member States. ECMWF carries out scientific and technical research directed to the improvement of its forecasts, collects and processes large amounts of observations, and manages a long-term archive of meteorological data. Satellite and in situ observations provide the information for up-to-date global analyses and climate reanalyses of the atmosphere, ocean and land surface.
For details, see www.ecmwf.int/<http://www.ecmwf.int/>.
ECMWF has been entrusted to operate the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) and the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) on behalf of the European Commission until the end of 2020. Copernicus is the European Union (EU) flagship Earth-observation programme. The programme ensures operational monitoring of the atmosphere, oceans, and continental surfaces, and will provide reliable, validated information services for a range of environmental and security applications.
The Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) provides consistent and quality-controlled information related to air pollution and health, solar energy, greenhouse gases and climate forcing, everywhere in the world. For details, see www.atmosphere.copernicus.eu/<http://www.atmosphere.copernicus.eu/>
The Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) provides authoritative information about the past, present and future climate, as well as tools to enable climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies by policy makers and businesses. For details, see www.climate.copernicus.eu/<http://www.climate.copernicus.eu/>

Summary of the role

The C3S Climate Data Store (CDS, cds.climate.copernicus.eu) forms the backbone for many C3S products and services. It provides a single point of access to a wide range of datasets that can be used to gain a better understanding of climate change and its impacts on society. The CDS data catalogue includes observations of climate variables, global and regional reanalysis, seasonal forecasts and model simulations of future climate change under different emission scenarios. The CDS is designed to make it possible for non-expert users to combine many of these datasets into useful high-level information products. This can be done with an online python toolbox, which includes a simple application editor for developing workflows and interactive web applications based on CDS datasets. All CDS data and tools are free and open for anyone to use.
The Sectoral Information System (SIS) is the part of the programme that aims at demonstrating the value of the C3S infrastructure through a series of operational services designed to address the needs of specific downstream users.
The role of the Graduate Climate Change Information Analyst is twofold:

  * To ensure that to an external visitor all services developed by the SIS contracts look and feel the same and ensure the coherency and the overall quality of all the outfacing elements of the SIS services. This includes reviewing documentation, video and training material and ensuring that the quality of all material provided adheres to the standards defined by the C3S Evaluation and Quality Control (EQC) function.
  * To facilitate the integration of data and tools developed by the SIS contractors onto the CDS, and to ensure high quality and high level of integration for all applications to be published on the CDS.
The selected candidate will work closely with the other members of the SIS team, the CDS team, the EQC team, the Communications team and their contractors, the SIS contractors, as well as ECMWF scientists and other staff
The role will enable the Graduate Climate Change Information Analyst to get hands-on experience with climate data and tools using a cutting-edge technical infrastructure, and to work with colleagues in a science driven, highly reputable international organisation.
Main duties and key responsibilities

· Acquiring in-depth knowledge of the CDS and its capabilities

  * Work with ECMWF scientists and developers on integrating cutting-edge application on the C3S ecosystem
  * Documenting end-to-end toolbox applications on the CDS
  * Operationalising the end-to-end toolbox applications on the CDS
  * Quality checking of documentation, including how-to articles and user guidance for toolbox applications
  * Providing general support to the SIS team
Personal attributes

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships, both internally and with external contractors

· Excellent attention to detail
· Ability to work against tight deadlines
