Job Description:

The Research Associate III will conduct applied science analyses including hydrology modeling and remote sensing-based water mapping in support of a range of services related to water resources management, land cover/ecosystems, food security, and disaster management.  The water resources associate will support coordination of water and water-related science activities throughout the SERVIR network, including the Science Coordination Office, hubs, SERVIR Applied Sciences Team, and subject matter experts.

SERVIR is a NASA and USAID joint project that enables the use of Earth observations and geospatial technologies for improved societal decision-making in SERVIR regions.  SERVIR Science Coordination Office (SCO) at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center is seeking to collaborate with UAH to provide SERVIR global technical and scientific support.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Earth Science, Environmental Science or Engineering, Hydrology, Data Science, Computer Science or a related field/3-3 ½ years of full-time verifiable work experience/must have experience with geospatial and remote sensing and scientific data processing-data management/must possess excellent written and oral communication skills/cultural awareness and sensitivity pertinent to diverse SERVIR regions is required/must have a basic awareness-knowledge of web mapping technology, geospatial data processing-data management, geographic information APIs, such as Google Maps, ArcGIS API for JavaScript, MapLayers and Mapbox/must possess an intermediate awareness of hydrologic modeling, Satellite Remote Sensing of water resources, raster data, to include processing of temporal datasets, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and earth science geospatial data analysis experience, to include math, statistical and scientific data processing automation using libraries, packages or tools, such as SciPy, NumPy, ArcPy, R, Math.net and MatLab/must have experience with relational database design and management, such as PostgreSQL, MySQL and MSSQL/Master's degree in Earth Science, Environment Science or Engineering, Hydrology, Data Science, Computer Science or a related field is preferred/experience working with NASA or other federal agencies is desired/basic experience on scientific-statistical data presentation through interactive charts, such as plotly.js, chart.js, D3.js and Google Charts is preferred/knowledge of Responsive Design Frameworks is desired/ability to manage and co-develop science products and applications in an international setting and to travel to international locations for trainings and collaborative meetings is preferred

The approximate annual salary range for this position is $58,600 - $61,792.
