MEAS Department Head

Located in the College of Sciences at NC State, Marine, Earth, and
Atmospheric Sciences (MEAS) is one of the largest multidisciplinary
geoscience departments in the nation. MEAS is one of six NC State
departments with a presence at the NC State Center for Marine Sciences and
Technology (CMAST), a coastal and marine science research facility located
on Bogue Sound in Morehead City, NC (http://www.cmast.ncsu.edu). MEASfaculty
also participate in the recently established Center for Geospatial Analytics
http://geospatial.ncsu.edu). Additional information about MEAS and its

The MEAS Department, with 30 tenure & tenure-track faculty, 11 non-tenure
track and research faculty, 11 staff, 90 graduate students and 216
undergraduates is committed to strong graduate programs, while maintaining
excellent undergraduate programs in each of our disciplines. The wide range
of expertise within the department provides unique opportunities for
multi-disciplinary research in the geosciences.

Essential Job Duties

The NC State College of Sciences brings together the mathematical, physical,
and biological sciences. The Head reports to the Dean of the College of
Sciences and is responsible for administrative, budgetary, and personnel
matters.

The Head is expected to set the highest standard for the Department with
regard to scholarship and professional activities and to have a balanced
appreciation for teaching, research, consulting, and multidisciplinary
collaboration.

vision for a multidisciplinary geoscience department at a large land-grant

environmental research and teaching.

Other Work/ResponsibilitiesMinimum Education/Experience

A PhD, or equivalent degree, in a relevant discipline and research
experience in geosciences is required. Prior successful administrative or
programmatic leadership experience is expected.

Departmental Required Skills

Academic credentials consistent with that of a tenured, full professor at a
major research university.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Potential candidates must have strong organizational and leadership skills,
a distinguished record of research in the geosciences, strong commitments to
diversity as well as, graduate and undergraduate education, and a broad
understanding of geosciences (marine, earth, and/or atmospheric).
