Dear Colleagues,

I'd like to advertise a postdoc and a PhD at Cornell University, in the
department of Earth and Atmospheric Science.

====================================
Postdoc:

A two-year postdoctoral research position is available at the Department
of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY,
in the area of stratosphere-troposphere coupling. A dynamic,
self-motivated, early career scientist is sought to design, carry out,
and analyze targeted experiments with CESM2 to clarify and quantify
processes relevant to the downward influence of the stratosphere on the
troposphere below, on any timescale, either in the tropics or extratropics.

Candidates should have a background in large-scale atmospheric dynamics
or tropical meteorology, with experience in the analysis of climate
model output. Excellent written and oral communication skills are
essential. Experience with CESM would be valuable.

The researcher will work under the supervision of Dr. Peter Hitchcock,
and would involve the opportunity to travel and interact with colleagues
at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, CO.
Extension of the position beyond the initial two-year appointment is
possible contingent upon performance and funding availability.

The formal posting can be found here:

Please contact Peter Hitchcock (aph28 at cornell.edu) with expressions of
interest or for further information. Applications are due 15 Dec 2018.

PhD:

One or two funded PhD positions are available working with me at Cornell
in Ithaca, NY. I am looking for creative, intellectually curious, and
hard working students interested in working on problems in large-scale
atmospheric dynamics and predictability related to
stratosphere-troposphere interactions. Applications for the fall of 2019
are due 1 Jan 2019. Interested parties are welcome to contact me
(aph28 at cornell.edu).

Diversity and Inclusion are a part of Cornell University’s heritage. We
are a recognized employer and educator valuing AA/EEO, Protected
Veterans, and Individuals with Disabilities.

Best regards,

Peter Hitchcock
