Posting Summary


The purpose of the position and its main function is to manage the day to day operations of an National Science Foundation (NSF) funded, high hazard clean isotope national laboratory facility including the supervision of lab employees; the hands-on training of students and faculty; the development and testing of new laboratory methods; the analysis of data; and, the first-authored, peer-reviewed publication of results and methods along with secondary authorship of analyses made with others. The person in this position will schedule and coordinate visits to the laboratory, travel to perform outreach to under-represented groups, and interface with AMS analytic facilities in person, by phone and over email - with general supervision from the faculty laboratory director.

Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)


Bachelor's degree in a geoscience or geochemistry or related scientific field and four to six years' experience required or an equivalent combination of education and experience which may include a graduate degree. Demonstrated experience reducing cosmogenic nuclide data, maintaining databases, and webpages. Experience training faculty and students in specialized laboratory methods. Experience in clean laboratory; demonstrated experience and ability in the development, optimization, and preparation of first-authored publications presenting and interpreting data and methods for high profile academic, peer-reviewed journals. Demonstrated experience in public outreach including interacting via lectures and other pedagogical techniques with a variety of different audiences. Apply inorganic chemical principles and statistical techniques to develop new methods and prepare quality control analyses for blanks and standards.

Desirable Qualifications


Experience in clean laboratory experience focused on cosmogenic isotope geochemistry; demonstrated experience and ability in the development, optimization, and publication of methods for the extraction of cosmogenic nuclides from mineral matricies and the preparation of pure mineral separates. Experience in preparation of first-authored publications presenting and interpretting cosmogenic nuclide data in high profile academic, peer-reviewed journals. hands-on experience training faculty and students in the extraction of cosmogenic nuclides from mineral matrices.
