Faculty of Science invites applications for an appointment with tenure at
the rank of Associate Professor to serve as the Director of the
Environmental Science Program. The appointment will preferably commence on
July 1, 2018. The Directorship appointment is a five-year term, renewable
based on successful performance.
Environmental Science Program at the University of Calgary is a joint
program offered by the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Arts leading
to a BSc in Environmental Science. Students in the program focus their
studies in one of six areas of specialization (Biological Sciences,
Chemistry, Geography, Geology, Physics and Statistics). For more

The successful candidate will have:

   - PhD and field experience in hydrology, hydrogeology, biogeochemistry,
   soil science or related sciences.
   - Enthusiasm for developing and leading environmental science field
   courses.
   - Evidence of teaching excellence and teaching development.
   - Passion for multidisciplinary, inquiry-based and community-based
   approaches to learning,
   - Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities
   and cultures.
   - Demonstrated leadership record including program administration,
   mentoring/coaching of academic staff and students, managing change and
   working effectively within a leadership team.

The Environmental Science Program aims to be a leading contributor to the
University of Calgary's Academic Plan particularly in connecting
communities and driving innovation, and through supporting its
Sustainability Strategy and Indigenous Strategy.

The successful candidate will be appointed with tenure at the rank of
Associate Professor with salary commensurate with experience. Undergraduate
teaching and learning and Environmental Sciences program development are
critical areas of the portfolio.

In addition to the qualifications above, a candidate appointed with tenure
at the rank of Associate Professor requires evidence of teaching
effectiveness, recognized research attainment or equivalent professional
attainment, and a satisfactory record of service.
