The Bay Area Air Quality Management District (Air District) is a regional government agency, committed to achieving clean air to protect the public's health and the environment. The Air District accomplishes this goal through the regulation of stationary sources and various outreach and incentive programs designed to encourage clean air choices.

The Air District's jurisdiction encompasses all seven counties - Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Napa and portions of two others - southwestern Solano and southern Sonoma.

The District is currently conducting an open recruitment for the position of Principal Air and Meteorological Monitoring Specialist in the Meteorology and Measurements Division. There is one (1) vacant position. This is a full-time represented position.

DEFINITION
Under direction, performs the most complex and highly specialized level of assigned air monitoring and meteorological data analysis activities and may supervise staff on a project basis or lead project teams; performs related work as assigned.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This class provides the most complex and specialized air monitoring and meteorological data analysis activities in support of the District's goals and objectives.  Incumbents are responsible for providing project supervision and/or team leadership for developing, implementing, and monitoring new and/or revised systems or programs.  Incumbents are responsible for planning specialized air monitoring field and research studies, air monitoring and meteorological data analysis, and technical research and documentation.  This work requires a high degree of initiative and independent judgement.  The work performed has significant consequences on the operations of the Division in that it involves the development or revision of District-wide air monitoring and meteorological programs, policies and procedures, thus having a significant impact on the operations of the District.  This class is distinguished from the Meteorology and Data Analysis Manager in that the latter has managerial responsibilities and supervises assigned staff on a continuing basis, including conducting performance evaluations.
