Associate Dean, College of Science and Mathematics

General Summary of Responsibilities

The new College of Science and Mathematics will consist of five academic departments including: the Departments of Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics, Astronomy, Geosciences (PAG).
Duties include: Assist with students' needs on walk-in basis; help field phone calls and emails from students and parents; assist as needed in evaluating course substitutions, waivers, petitions to register for more than 19 hours, transient permission forms, and change of grade forms; assist in grade appeals; meet with students on suspension as needed.
Other duties include: Review course enrollment numbers, chair COSM Curriculum Sub-Committee and COSM Assessment Committee; assist in representing COSM at Open House and recruiting events off campus; fill in for dean when dean is unavailable. The Associate Dean will assist the Dean in planning COSM events and major projects.

Required Qualifications

*An earned doctorate from an accredited university in a field represented in the college;
*An academic record of achievement in teaching, scholarship, and service appropriate for appointment in a VSU academic department at the rank of associate or full professor with tenure;
*A record of progressively responsible and relevant leadership experience in higher education;
*Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills;
*A commitment to shared governance and a consultative leadership style.
*Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, as well as scholarship
*Commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications

*Ability to manipulate detailed data sets for workload reports and other data projects in Excel
*Familiarity with budgets
*Ability to work with upset students and parents
*Experience in grant writing

Compliance Requirements

Position Requires completion of VSU's Annual Compliance Training course (such as State Business Transactions, Drug Free Workplace, Anti-Harassment Policy, Introduction to Information Security, Workers Compensation, Motor Vehicle Policy, USG Ethics Policy, Conflict of Interest/ Outside Activities Policy, Leave Procedures for Faculty and Staff, Georgia Open Records Act, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and Contracts 101. Supervisory positions require training in FMLA and Worker's Compensation.
Position Requires a Criminal Background Check.
Position May Require Credit Check (if using P-Card, working with Cash, etc.).
