What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position?

This is a term appointment for which all qualified applicants with or without Federal status may apply and be considered. Appointment to this position, however, will not convey permanent status in the Federal service and will be for a period not to exceed 13 months with possible extensions up to a total of 4 years without further competition.

Salary: $79,799 (Step 01) to $103,739 (Step 10); NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01.

Responsibilities As a Geologist within the Geoscience and Environmental Change Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:

     *   Create and compile geologic maps and reports on the southwestern United States, including but not limited to the intermountain west and southern Rocky Mountains of Colorado and Wyoming.
     *   Develop models of sedimentary processes and provenance within marine, lacustrine, fluvial and basin-fill depositional systems.
     *   Provide leadership and guidance for projects on research direction, data development, analysis, and publication concepts.
     *   Use GIS and subsurface modeling methods to prepare topical and regional scale digital geologic maps, cross sections, and 3D basin models and to analyze and interpret date for publication in scientific reports.

Travel Required Occasional travel - An average of 3 nights per month of overnight travel required for this position.

If you are qualifying based on specialized experience, you must meet the requirements listed below:

In addition to the basic education requirements, applicants must have experience in conducting scientific investigations on the geology and stratigraphy of sedimentary basins of the southern Rocky Mountains and/or intermountain west, including basins of the Rio Grande rift, and has professional knowledge of bordering San Juan and Raton basins and associated deposits. Additionally, has experience planning, coordinating, and executing scientific investigations that includes, (1) field data collection and lithostratigraphic-based digital geologic map compilation of basin-fill systems comprising fluvial, lacustrine and marine deposits; (2) in-depth understanding of associated sedimentary and tectonic processes of basin evolution; and (3) use of digital geologic maps and supporting geochemical and geochronologic methods, subsurface drill hole and geophysical data to create 2-D and 3-D geologic basin models and associated cross sections.
