ROLE of the POSITION

The Department of Geoscience has partnered with the Research & Development division of the USDA Forest Service to provide project and data management and analysis support and subject matter expertise for various projects conducted by the Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) National Program. The FIA program is responsible for researching and reporting on forest trends in the United States, and this position contributes to that research by designing solutions to project needs and by performing other work in accordance with the overall research objectives. Specifically, this position will contribute to the design, development, implementation, and management of FIA project plans and protocols, change management systems, research and analyses, and project documentation and training content, including contribute to General Technical Reports (GTRs) and research publications.

Responsibilities:

  *   Develop user help documentation and NetHelp content for USDA Forest Service applications
  *   Develop user training content for applications
  *   Participate in meetings; prepare/distribute meeting notes as needed
  *   Project management
  *   Application testing and issue reporting
  *   Supervise and mentor student workers
  *   Provide administrative and technical support to colleagues and partners, including purchasing and travel
  *   Conduct literature reviews and research, and share in authorship

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

  *   Familiarity with USDA Forest Service Inventory and Monitoring projects and processes
  *   Familiarity with USDA Forest Service enterprise project management tools (e.g., TeamForge, SharePoint)
  *   Critical thinking skills and the ability to learn and integrate new information quickly
  *   Research experience and familiarity with research methods
  *   Excellent writing and communication skills
  *   Experience authoring user help and training documentation
  *   Experience publishing NetHelp content using tools such as Doc-To-Help
  *   Intimate knowledge of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended (29 U.S.C. §794(d)), requiring Federal agencies to make their electronic and information technology accessible to people with disabilities requirements and responsibilities

QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a Bachelor's degree in a science-based program from a regionally accredited college or university and a minimum of 3 years of experience in a related professional field. Experience working with government contracts or agreements is desirable.

SALARY RANGE

Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. Position is contingent upon funding.
