Postdoctoral Position at Georgia Tech (Aerosol Health Effects)

A postdoctoral position is available in the Ng group (http://ng.chbe.gatech.edu/) and Lu group (http://www.lulab.gatech.edu/) at the Georgia Institute of Technology starting Fall 2017. The successful candidate will investigate health effects of particulate matter (PM) using cellular microfluidic assays, with a focus on linking aerosol chemical composition and properties to various health endpoints. The position will involve the use of the Georgia Tech Environmental Chamber facility (https://coe.gatech.edu/news/air-we-breathe) and other reactors to generate aerosols. A large suite of state-of-the-art instrumentation is available for chemical characterization of aerosols, including a High Resolution Chemical Ionization Mass Spectrometer (HR-ToF-CIMS) with an aerosol inlet (FIGAERO), a High Resolution Aerosol Chemical Ionization Mass Spectrometer (HR-ToF-AMS), etc. In parallel, the project will involve designing microfluidic systems to handle cell-based samples and using quantitative imaging and other analytical techniques to understand responses to aerosols. Participating in other related ongoing projects is also possible.

Applicants should hold a Ph. D. in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Bioengineering, Atmospheric Sciences, Environmental Sciences/Engineering, or a related field. Knowledge and some experience with microfluidics, cellular assays, and/or operating advanced aerosol instrumentation (e.g., FIGAERO-HR-ToF-CIMS, HR-ToF-AMS) are preferred. Women and minority candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

The initial appointment will be for one year, with the expectation of renewal for at least one year upon satisfactory performance.

To apply, please email a cover letter describing your research interests, a CV, and a list of three references to Professor Nga Lee (Sally) Ng (ng at chbe.gatech.edu<mailto:ng at chbe.gatech.edu>) and Professor Hang Lu (http://www.lulab.gatech.edu/). Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

Postdoctoral Position at Georgia Tech (Aerosol Lipids Chemistry)

A postdoctoral position is available in the Ng group (http://ng.chbe.gatech.edu/) and Fernandez group (https://ww2.chemistry.gatech.edu/fernandez/) at the Georgia Institute of Technology starting Fall 2017. The successful candidate will investigate the origins of lipids with an emphasis on the role of particle-phase chemistry in atmospheric aerosols. The position will involve laboratory chamber studies. A large suite of state-of-the-art instrumentation is available for the project, including several high resolution Orbitrap and QTOF electrospray ion mobility-mass spectrometers, a High Resolution Chemical Ionization Mass Spectrometer (HR-ToF-CIMS) with an aerosol inlet (FIGAERO), a High Resolution Aerosol Chemical Ionization Mass Spectrometer (HR-ToF-AMS), and a 12T FTICR mass spectrometer. Participation in other related ongoing projects is also possible.

This position is within the Center for Chemical Evolution, a Phase II NSF-NASA Center for Chemical Innovation, which has participants at 9 institutions across the US. The CCE research projects at Georgia Tech are focused on understanding the emergence of functional biopolymers from plausible prebiotic precursors.

Applicants should hold a Ph. D. in Atmospheric Sciences, Organic/Physical Chemistry, Environmental Sciences/Engineering, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, or a related field. Knowledge and experience in operating advanced aerosol instrumentation (e.g., high resolution time-of-flight aerosol mass spectrometer, chemical ionization mass spectrometer) and conducting chamber experiments are preferred. Women and minority candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

The initial appointment will be for one year, with the expectation of renewal for at least one year upon satisfactory performance.

To apply, please email a cover letter describing your research interests, a CV, and a list of three references to Prof. Nga Lee (Sally) Ng (ng at chbe.gatech.edu<mailto:ng at chbe.gatech.edu>) and Prof. Facundo Fernandez (facundo.fernandez at chemistry.gatech.edu<mailto:facundo.fernandez at chemistry.gatech.edu>). Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
