Sustainability Sciences at The University of Iowa invites applications=20=

for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of assistant professor in the=20=

area of ecosystem ecology. The ideal candidate will be focused on=20
processes at the watershed scale or larger and be motivated by questions=20=

at the intersection of natural and human systems. This candidate will=20
also be well versed in the computational methods necessary to understand=20=

such processes (e.g., spatial analytical and statistical approaches,=20
spatial simulation). Applicants could work in one of a variety of=20
specialized research areas, including:=20

-Resilience and adaptive capacity of ecosystems
-Socio-ecological systems
-Ecosystem change and the spread of disease
-Hydro-ecological systems and flooding
-Ecosystem modeling and measurement
-Ecosystem services

The successful candidate will contribute to a broad-based environmental=20=

curriculum through introductory to graduate level courses that fulfill=20=

requirements for degrees in geography and related fields.  Specific=20
courses taught by an individual hired in this position could include=20
introductory physical geography, ecosystem ecology, field methods,=20
wetlands, and climatology. Successful candidates are expected to conduct=20=

cutting-edge research and work effectively in interdisciplinary teams=20
that address significant real-world problems, thereby helping to=20
maintain the department=92s active role in collaborative research across=20=

campus.=20

This appointment will begin August 15, 2018. Applicants must have a=20
Ph.D. in geography, ecology, or a related discipline in-hand by that=20
date. Applicants should show promise for gaining external funding. A=20
proven record of research and teaching excellence at the intersection of=20=

human and environmental systems is desirable. Applicants should be able=20=

to teach introductory physical geography as well as advanced courses in=20=

their area of expertise.  Collaborative and interdisciplinary research=20=

is encouraged within the department and at UI. The ability to complement=20=

existing departmental strengths (e.g., health geography, resilience,=20
vulnerability, land-use science, sustainability, geographic information=20=

science, urban ecology) or university initiatives (e.g., water=20
sustainability, adaptation to climate change, informatics), is=20
