The department of Marine, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences ( MEAS )is an academic department within the College of Sciences. As such it is engaged in undergraduate and graduate education, extramurally funded research, and outreach and service, in marine sciences, including physical, biological, chemical and geological oceanography, Earth sciences, including geology, geochemistry, paleontology, and hydrology, and atmospheric sciences, including weather, climate, atmospheric physics and chemistry, and air quality. The department has more than 200 undergraduate students in five major programs and about 100 graduate students evenly divided between masters and doctoral programs.

Essential Job Duties
MEAS is seeking a lecturer for spring 2018 to teach MEA 518 Climate Risk Analysis. The course focuses on applying methods of risk analysis to evaluate options for dealing with climate change; introduces appropriate application of statistical methods and alternative solutions to climate-change related issues; and provides practical hands-on experience for professionals in analyzing climate risks and developing adaptation strategies in climate sensitive sectors. The specific content will rely heavily on case studies in hydrology, health, energy, and transportation sectors.

Other Work/Responsibilities
Additional course/s and/or administrative duties could bring this position over .225, depending on qualifications of selected candidate.

Minimum Education/Experience
PhD in a geosciences field. At least 4 semesters as a lecturer or teaching assistant. A working knowledge of climate attribution and adaptation. Prior experience editing climate change related content for mass distribution.

Departmental Required Skills
Demonstrated oral and written communication skills in support of climate change education

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Cross-disciplinary understanding of geosciences, including the atmospheric, marine and geologic sciences.
