The Molecular Ecology and Geomicrobiology Lab at Texas A&M
University-Corpus Christi is accepting applications for a research
assistantship starting in Summer or Fall 2016. Our research integrates
molecular microbiology, geochemistry and geobiology to understand
microbial life across environments such as marine subsurface, terrestrial
subsurface, and coastal estuaries. Ample resources are available for field
sampling or cruises, advanced experimental approaches (cultivation, next
generation sequencing, flow cytometry, digital PCR), and/or bioinformatics
of existing data.
Interested Ph.D. students should preferably hold an M.S. degree with a
focus in Microbial Ecology, Marine Science/Oceanography, Biogeochemistry,
Astrobiology, or a related field, and possess strong analytical skills.
Potential applicants with a B.S. degree should have 2 years of research
experience in an area related to molecular microbiology, biochemistry,
genetics, or analytical chemistry and evidence of strong writing and
presentation skills. Above all else, the student should be excited,
motivated, and passionate about research in a growing field.
The graduate assistantship will have an excellent stipend relative to the
cost-of-living. To be considered for the position, please email me, Dr.
Brandi Kiel Reese (brandi.reese at tamucc.edu). Along with a letter of
interest stating your research experience, please send a C.V., unofficial
transcripts, and GRE scores. Screening of applications will begin
immediately and remain open until filled. Complete graduate applications
are due December 1st (http://marinebiology.tamucc.edu/application.html)
