*Terrestrial Ecologist – Environmental Studies Program*

The Environmental Studies Program at Colby College invites applications for
a tenure-track position in Terrestrial Ecology to begin September 1, 2017.
The successful candidate will have a specialization in terrestrial
ecosystems and an interest in including local Maine field sites as part of
her or his research and teaching programs.  We welcome applications from
broadly trained ecologists with interdisciplinary backgrounds and expertise
in ecosystem- to landscape-scale ecology with clear application to solving
environmental problems.  Experience in carbon cycling, modeling, microbial
ecology, restoration ecology or other community-ecosystem-landscape scopes
of research encouraged.



This position is part of a major multi-disciplinary initiative in
Environmental Science that includes faculty positions in Biology,
Chemistry, Geology, and Environmental Studies, investments in field and
laboratory-based facilities, and partnerships with the Bigelow Laboratory
for Ocean Sciences and the Maine Lakes Resource Center.  The position will
require excellence in both teaching and research.



Candidates should have a Ph.D. and a strong commitment to undergraduate
education. Postdoctoral experience is preferred.  Teaching responsibilities
will include a lecture and laboratory rotation including the Environmental
Studies gateway course *Environment and Society, Introduction to Ecology*,
an upper-level course in his or her area of expertise, and/or a senior
capstone course*.*



The successful candidate will be expected to establish a vigorous research
program that includes undergraduate students.  Research is supported with
competitive startup packages, excellent instrumentation, and direct access
to one of the largest forest ecosystems in the eastern United States.  Women
candidates may be eligible for a Clare Boothe Luce endowed chair providing
expanded research support for junior faculty.
