applications for a tenure-track position in Terrestrial Ecology to begin
September 1, 2017. The successful candidate will have a specialization</span><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:"itc franklin gothic book""> in terrestrial ecosystems and an interest in including local Maine
field sites as part of her or his research and teaching programs.<span> </span>We welcome applications from broadly trained
ecologists with interdisciplinary backgrounds and expertise in ecosystem-
to landscape-scale ecology<b> </b><span style="color:black">with clear application to solving environmental
problems</span><span style="color:black">.</span><span> </span>Experience in carbon cycling, modeling,
microbial ecology, restoration ecology or other community-ecosystem-landscape scopes
of research encouraged. <span style="color:black"> </span></span></p>

initiative in Environmental Science that includes faculty positions in Biology,
Chemistry, Geology, and Environmental Studies, investments in field and
laboratory-based facilities, and partnerships with the Bigelow Laboratory for
Ocean Sciences and the Maine Lakes Resource Center.<span> </span></span><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:"itc franklin gothic book"">The position
will require excellence in both teaching and research.</span></p>

<p style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt;line-height:normal" class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:"itc franklin gothic book";color:black">Candidates should have a Ph.D. and a strong commitment to
undergraduate education. Postdoctoral experience is preferred.<span> </span>Teaching responsibilities will include a lecture
and laboratory rotation including the Environmental Studies gateway course <i>Environment and Society, Introduction to
Ecology</i>, an upper-level course in his or her area of expertise, and/or a
senior capstone course<i>.</i> </span></p>

research program that includes undergraduate students.<span> </span>Research is supported with competitive
startup packages, excellent instrumentation, and direct access to one of the
largest forest ecosystems in the eastern United States.<span> </span>Women candidates may be eligible for a Clare
Boothe Luce endowed chair providing expanded research support for junior
faculty.<span style="color:black"></span></span></p>
