The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is seeking qualified applicants to work in the Climate, International and Multimedia Group (CIMG), Health and Environmental Impacts Division (HEID), Office of Air Quality Planning and Standards (OAQPS).  The OAQPS is a national office within EPA's Office of Air and Radiation (OAR) located in Research Triangle Park, NC, and plays a vital role in EPA's work to protect against air pollution effects on public health and the environment. Specifically, EPA is seeking a motivated individual with a science and policy background to provide expertise on the scientific, technical, and policy issues related to the linkages between air quality and climate.  The candidate selected for this position will provide support to a number of key air quality programs that are increasingly concerned with the impacts of climate change on air quality and the impacts of air pollution on climate.  The responsibilities of the position include:

*      Providing expert advice regarding the scientific linkages between air quality and climate to inform scientific research and policy development within the Agency.  This will require keeping abreast of emerging scientific and technical literature, analyzing air-quality/climate cross-linkages, and communicating key findings to both technical and non-technical decision makers and audiences.

*      Providing up-to-date climate science and technical expertise in support of national ambient air quality standards (NAAQS) development, as well as other regulatory development activities related to climate and air quality, including: regulatory impact analyses for NAAQS, new source performance standards, and air toxics standards; pollutant source endangerment findings; etc.

*      Providing scientific expert support to policy development activities related to short-lived climate forcers including black carbon, ozone and methane.  Evaluating and synthesizing relevant scientific literature regarding the climate impacts of traditional air pollutants to help inform policies;

*      Establishing and maintaining communication and working relationships with relevant EPA policy and research offices and the external scientific and technical community in order to guide research to address priority policy questions.

Salary Range: The entry salary range (GS-12) would be $73,242 to $95,214 per year.
