Spatial Scientist (GIS Emphasis) - Assistant or Associate Professor
University of Nebraska-Lincoln



The School of Natural Resources (SNR) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln=
 (UNL) Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources (IANR) is seeking app=
licants for a tenure-track position in Spatial Science and Geographic Infor=
mation Systems (GIS) at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. This =
12-month position shall have appointments in teaching and research and is e=
xpected to lead and coordinate a nationally-recognized research and educati=
on program in GIS and spatial analysis. This faculty member will provide GI=
S leadership within CALMIT and SNR and research will interface with various=
 centers, units, and initiatives at UNL and state agencies.



Required Qualifications:  Ph.D. in a relevant field of study (e.g., geograp=
hy, ecology, or natural resources) at time of appointment, a strong record =
of research and scholarly activities in the field of spatial science with a=
n emphasis in applied GIS for natural resources and agriculture including p=
ublications in peer-reviewed journals and evidence of development of propos=
als for externally-funded grants, experience and demonstrated commitment to=
 excellence in teaching, and a proven ability to communicate effectively wi=
th students, professionals, and the general public.



Preferred Qualifications:  Relevant experience beyond the terminal Ph.D. de=
gree in the use of GIS pursuing inter-disciplinary research related to natu=
ral resources, agriculture, and/or environmental monitoring. Experience in =
remote sensing, GIS-based environmental modeling, spatial analysis, global =
positioning systems, field data collection, computer programming (e.g., Pyt=
hon), and spatial data bases.
