*Postdoctoral Associate at University of North Carolina Wilmington*

*Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry*

*The Marine and Atmospheric Chemistry Research Laboratory (MACRL) at the
University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) is seeking applications for
a postdoctoral appointment that will start August 2016. The appointment
will initially be for one year, but is renewable for one additional year.
The position requires a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Oceanography, Geochemistry or a
related field obtained within the last three years. The successful
applicant should have expertise in isotopic methodologies preferably
utilizing compound specific isotopic analysis of carbon at natural
abundance. There are also opportunities to participate in a current project
involving the biogeochemistry of petroleum in sediments. The appointment is
time-limited with an end date of July 2018. *

*The successful candidate will work primarily on a currently funded NSF
grant investigating the relative proportions of biofuel and biogenically
derived ethanol in rainwater by compound specific stable carbon isotope
analysis. The research is important and timely given the United States is
at a pivotal crossroads with respect to ethanol usage as a fuel and because
virtually nothing is known regarding its atmospheric aqueous phase
reactivity under environmentally relevant conditions. The postdoc will also
have the opportunity to teach undergraduate classes, mentor undergraduate
and graduate students, and work on additional projects in MACRL.*

*All necessary analytical instrumentation is available and located within
the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry or at the Center for Marine
Science at UNCW. To apply follow instructions located at
https://jobs.uncw.edu/postings/4138 <https://jobs.uncw.edu/postings/4138>
. Please contact Dr. Brooks Avery at averyg at uncw.edu <averyg at uncw.edu>.
With any questions about the position.*

*UNCW is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer. Minorities and
women are particularly encouraged to apply.*
