2 Postdoctoral Associate positions in Agricultural Modeling,
  Massachusetts Institute of Technology

    Description

The *Center for Global Change Science* <http://cgcs.mit.edu/> seeks two
(2) *Postdoctoral Associates* to work with the *Joint Program on the
Science and Policy of Global Change* to expand the agricultural model
capabilities of the MIT Integrated Global System Modeling (IGSM)
framework. The postdoctoral researchers will each participate in the
development, implementation, calibration and evaluation of a crop model
within the Global Land System of the IGSM. One postdoc will focus on
crop biogeophysics (e.g., phenology and evapotranspiration),
productivity and water demand, while the other postdoc will focus on
biogeochemistry (i.e. terrestrial carbon and nitrogen dynamics) with
attention to greenhouse gas fluxes from agriculture. These two postdocs
will be expected to work in close collaboration, and to actively engage
with developers of global crop and ecosystem models within the
community-at-large. The postdocs will also work among faculty, research
staff, postdoctoral researchers, and graduate students in an
interdisciplinary group that includes climate scientists and economists.

    Requirements

A Ph.D. in agronomy, ecology, plant biology, biometeorology, or related
field; knowledge of crop science; and experience with scientific
programming in Fortran, C, and C++. Expertise in crop simulation
modeling and/or crop model development is particularly desired. In
addition, preference will be given to applicants with expertise in
biogeophysical and/or biogeochemical land models used in coupled
Earth-system frameworks.
Interested applicants may contact the MIT Joint Program at
globalchange at mit.edu <mailto:globalchange at mit.edu> with questions.
Review of applications will continue until suitable candidates are
identified.
The appointment is for one year with the possibility of extension
depending on job performance and availability of funding. Opening
announced 1/5/2016.
