RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES AT THE JOINT GLOBAL CHANGE RESEARCH INSTITUTE

Post Doctorate RA - Integrated Assessment and Water Modeling<http://pnnl.jobs/college-park-md/post-doctorate-ra-integrated-assessment-and-water-modeling/DF29DCDA8C3146118820E545475C7F50/job/> (2 positions)

The Joint Global Change Research Institute (JGCRI) in College Park, MD seeks a Post Doctoral researcher to conduct integrated water modeling at both regional and global scales. Particular areas of interest include: 1) contributing to the water research program by improving the hydrology and water demand modules in the Global Change Assessment Model (GCAM) (e.g., sub-annual dynamics, droughts); 2) developing downscaling algorithms to generate gridded water demand, land use, emission data products; and 3) modeling gridded crop irrigation water demands globally. This is a full-time appointment (for up to three years) with benefits.

JGCRI houses an interdisciplinary team of researchers dedicated to understanding human and Earth system interactions with an aim towards addressing energy, environment and economic challenges and opportunities in United States and world-wide. One focus of JGCRI's research program is the continuing development and application of an integrated assessment computer-modeling framework, the Global Change Assessment Model (GCAM), that combines models of: energy and the economy, land-use, agriculture, water, climate, air-pollution, and ecosystems.

JGCRI researchers publish their findings in leading scientific journals and work with US Federal agencies, state governments, industry, foundations, and universities. JGCRI researchers are leaders in the international and national climate and global change research communities through prominent roles in science-based integrated assessments of energy and agricultural systems and water resources. The work environment at JGCRI is highly collaborative and interdisciplinary, focused on solutions to the world's most pressing challenges associated with energy, water and environment. Located in College Park, Maryland, JGCRI is a partnership between the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory of the US Department of Energy and the University of Maryland at College Park

Post Doctorate RA - Integrated Assessment Modeling - Latin America<http://pnnl.jobs/college-park-md/post-doctorate-ra-integrated-assessment-modeling-latin-america/C6711357251D4B04ABF106232F6732FE/job/> (1 position)

The Joint Global Change Research Institute (JGCRI) in College Park, MD seeks a Post Doctoral researcher to conduct integrated analysis of energy-water-land-climate linkages in Latin America. A primary focus will be on the exploration of these linkages through the development and use of integrated assessment modeling tools. Particular areas of interest include: 1) assessing the impacts of climate change on the energy, agriculture, and/or water resources sectors, and the consequences of multiple mitigation and adaptations measures in Latin America; and 2) modeling the energy-water-land-climate nexus for specific countries in Latin America in the context of the Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs). This is a full-time appointment (for up to two years) with benefits.
