EDUCATION SPECIALIST
Will deliver a locally relevant and environmentally responsive science and technology program entitled Discovering the Science of the Environment (DSE) for K - 12th grade students in Central Indiana schools and for the greater Indianapolis public in settings such as municipal/state/regional parks and community centers. The curriculum focuses on providing an interactive, hands-on experience with a mobile science and technology trailer that aligns programming with Indiana State Academic Standards for Science. This position will be responsible for program delivery as well as coordinating and supervising a team of undergraduates and other part-time assistants to assist in program delivery. In addition, the educational specialist will work with students, staff, faculty, and professionals in creating educational programs.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: (i) instruction of K-12 students in outdoor settings using mobile science and technology equipment; (ii) creation and updating of curriculum materials aligned with program goals and objectives; (ii) management of the DSE program components including scheduling of activities, maintaining of technology trailer and its content, stocking of materials and supplies; and (iv) participation in team meetings and program evaluations.

To be successful the Educational Specialist must have the ability to communicate effectively with school educators, park personnel, children and other adults. Should have an understanding of earth and environmental sciences. Familiarity with Indiana Academic Standards for Science. Knowledge of PA-based computer applications, and Microsoft Office programs, particularly Access.

Required: Master's degree in Science or Education from an accredited institution, or a Bachelor's degree in Science or Education from an accredited institution, plus at least 2 years of relevant experience. Must have a current driver's license and have the ability to learn to drive a 20 foot trailer attachment. Some travel is required as well as early start times and occasional weekend and evening engagements.
