[ES_JOBS_NET] Post-Doc Position in Snow Remote Sensing and Flood Modeling Available Fall 2016 at UNH

We are inviting application for a Post-Doctoral Scientist in the area of remote sensing, snow hydrology, and flood forecasting.

Great new opportunities to improve flood predictions and freeze-thaw state transitions during the snowmelt periods via a NASA funded projects in partnership among the University of New Hampshire (UNH), North Dakota State University (NDSU), the NOAA River Forecast Center, the USAGE Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL), and the USDA Hydrology and Remote Sensing Laboratory.

Successful applicants will conduct research needed to understand the transition between winter and spring. Focus areas is enhancing flood prediction models using satellite remote sensing observations that capture the magnitude, timing, and spatial distribution of watershed scale snowmelt parameters as well as antecedent soil moisture and freeze-thaw conditions.

Strong background in snow and freeze-thaw processes, background in microwave remote sensing and NASA products (AMSR-E, AMSR2, and SMAP), flood modeling experience, and programming skills are needed. Excellent analytical capabilities including R programming and modeling skills are required. Strong writing and communication skills are needed for all positions. The successful applicant must have a civil engineering, Earth Sciences, or Environmental Sciences  Ph.D. degree or comparable as appropriate.

Positions are hosted at UNH within the newly established UNH Center for Infrastructure Resilience to Climate and to offer an opportunity to work with the nation's leading researchers in an interdisciplinary, collaborative setting. UNH is located in beautiful Durham, NH and combines excellent research facilities with a high quality of living.

The position is scheduled to start in Fall 2016 with funding available for 3 years.
