Hi all,

A postdoctoral position is available in the Department of the Geophysical Sciences at the University of Chicago. The postdoctoral scientist will work on a project aimed at better understanding the mechanisms controlling the abyssal ocean circulation. A specific focus is to develop a physically sound picture of changes in the abyssal circulation between the present (interglacial) and glacial climates. The main research tools will likely consist of theory and idealized numerical simulations. However, the exact research direction can be adjusted depending on the candidate's background and interests. Start date is as soon as possible, but can be negotiated.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography or a closely related field, and a solid foundation in geophysical fluid dynamics. Expertise in the use of numerical ocean general circulation models is desirable but not a necessary requirement.

Applications should include a cover letter explaining research interests, a CV, as well as the names and contact information of three references. Please direct applications or any inquiries to Malte Jansen at mfj at uchicago.edu<mailto:mfj at uchicago.edu>.

The position will stay open until a suitable candidate is found.

Best,
Malte
