The Geophysical Laboratory of the Carnegie Institution for Science invites
applications for a Staff Scientist position. We currently seek to hire
creative and exceptional scientists to develop and carry out world-leading
research in areas that complement and strengthen the on-going research at
the Laboratory.

The Geophysical Laboratory is a unique and vibrant research enclave that
fosters an environment in which each Staff Scientist has the freedom to
explore the most compelling scientific questions. Unconstrained by
traditional academic boundaries, the science done at GL seamlessly merges
geology, physics, biology, chemistry, and space science in the pursuit of
profound questions related to the nature, origins, and evolution of matter,
planets, and life. Our current research falls primarily within three
overlapping areas of intense interest: Earth and Planetary Science,
Astrobiology and the Origins of Life, and the Chemistry and Physics of
Materials. Synergies among these interest areas, as well as links to many
closely related research pursuits at Carnegie’s co-located Department of
Terrestrial Magnetism, provide each Geophysical Laboratory scientist with
exceptional opportunities.

Candidates are asked to submit a cover letter, a CV with a list of
publications, a statement of research interests, and the names and contact
information for at least three references. Consideration of applications
will begin November 1, 2015 and will continue until the position has been
filled.

*To submit an application, click here
<https://jobs.carnegiescience.edu/jobs/staff-scientist/>. Only complete
applications submitted via the Carnegie website will be considered.*

The prospective researcher will work at the Geophysical Laboratory in
Washington, DC and will receive 12 months of salary paid by the endowment
of the Institution. The Carnegie Institution for Science is an equal
opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration
for employment and will not be discriminated against on the basis of
gender, race/ethnicity, protected veteran status, disability, or other
protected group status.
