*Summary of Position:* The Department of Geography and Geology at the
University of North Carolina Wilmington (http://www.uncw.edu/earsci)
invites applications for a tenure-track position to begin August 2016 in
Hydrogeology at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. We seek a
geologist specializing in hydrogeology with an emphasis on coastal settings
to support our link between Earth and ocean sciences. The successful
candidate will be a dynamic and engaging individual who will: 1) be
committed to exceptional teaching at the introductory level, including
oversight of laboratory sections, and teach upper-level undergraduate and
graduate courses in his or her specialty; 2) support both our
professional-track BS and MS Geoscience degrees by developing and nurturing
connections in the professional community that enhance our students’
education; 3) establish and maintain a vigorous research program with
significant field and quantitative components that involves undergraduate
and graduate students; and 4) have the potential to collaborate in research
with existing faculty in the Department of Geography and Geology.

*Minimum Requirements:* A Ph.D. in geology or a related discipline is
required.

*Preferred Qualifications:* The incumbent is expected to have expertise in
subsurface hydrology, including measurement and modeling of groundwater
flow, reactive transport modeling, and/or remote sensing of groundwater.
Research areas may include, but are not limited to, local and
regional-scale groundwater dynamics and groundwater quality; surface
water-groundwater interactions; the impact of climate change on groundwater
recharge, storage and use; or groundwater transport of contaminants.

*Primary Function of Organizational Unit:* The department of Geography and
Geology offers the following degrees: B.S. in geology and oceanography,
M.S. and B.A. in geosciences, B.A. in geography, and a Graduate Certificate
in GIS. UNCW maintains a wide range of research laboratories on the main
campus and at the Center for Marine Science.

*College/School Information:* The College of Arts and Sciences is UNCW’s
largest academic unit, employing 450 full-time and 150 part-time faculty
members and awarding approximately three quarters of the university’s
academic credits. Ours is a comprehensive arts & sciences college
comprising the arts, the humanities, the mathematical and natural sciences,
and the social and behavioral sciences.

The College’s twenty-two departments offer a variety of undergraduate
majors leading to the Bachelor of Arts, the Bachelor of Fine Arts, the
Bachelor of Music, and the Bachelor of Science. The College also offers a
full complement of minors, including interdisciplinary minors such as

gain direct hands-on experience with the skills of their major fields as an
