Soil Biogeochemist/Microbiologist

The Department of Biosystems Engineering and Soil Science at the
University of Tennessee, Knoxville is seeking to fill a postdoctoral
level position in Soil Biogeochemistry or Microbiology to research the
biotic and abiotic controls on soil nitrogen cycling in agroecosystems
under long-term (>30 years) experimental treatment. Research is field
and lab based, primarily consisting of quantifying and modeling the
biological and physical mechanisms of nitrogen retention and greenhouse
gas fluxes, and is associated with a USDA-funded project on these
subjects. The position is full time and offers a competitive salary and
benefits commensurate with experience. The initial appointment is for 12
months, and renewable based on performance. A Ph.D. in Ecosystem
Ecology, Soil Microbiology, Environmental Chemistry, Microbial Ecology
or similar with a strong foundation in biogeochemistry, microbial
ecology, soil physics and chemistry is required. Experience with any of
the following: quantitative modeling, isotope tracers, soil trace gas
measurement, and/or quantitative PCR techniques is desired. This
position requires working independently and constructively in teams
through performing original research, report writing, meeting
participation, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Field sites include
the East and West Tennessee Research and Education Centers, part of the
UT Institute of Agriculture AgResearch network. The applicant will have
opportunities to collaborate with scientists at USDA-Agricultural
Research Service, the Natural Resources Conservation Service, National
Soil Survey Center, and University of Nebraska.

Applications will be reviewed starting on April 15, 2015 and the
