Two positions for Postdoctoral Fellows, Tulane University

1. Early Holocene Sea-Level Change

2. Deltaic/Coastal Evolution
Applications are invited for two postdoctoral positions in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. Both positions are for one year in the first instance, with the possibility for an extension depending on progress. The appointments will ideally commence in September 2015. The successful candidates will join the Quaternary Research Group (http://www.tulane.edu/~tor) and are expected to conduct research that complements and enhances ongoing investigations within the group. Position (1) is part of an NSF-funded project that aims for a high-resolution reconstruction of relative sea-level change in the Mississippi Delta during the early Holocene, which will be combined with ice-sheet and GIA modeling to quantify the relative role of Laurentide and Antarctic ice melt to global sea-level rise during this time window. Position (2) involves, among others, the synthesis of Holocene subsurface data from the Mississippi Delta and adjacent areas, as well as targeted new collection of sediment cores, with the overarching goal to use the recent stratigraphic record to inform coastal restoration efforts. We are looking for new team members with a PhD degree and a background in either Quaternary science/paleoclimatology (position 1) or surface processes/sedimentary geology (position 2), both broadly defined. Additional responsibilities include the supervision of undergraduate students and assisting with mentoring graduate students within the department.

Applications must be submitted electronically via the following links: apply.interfolio.com/29822<http://apply.interfolio.com/29822> for position (1), and apply.interfolio.com/29823<http://apply.interfolio.com/29823> for position (2). Applications should include a cover letter, CV, statement of research interests, and names and contact information of three referees. Review of applications will start on June 29, 2015; later applicants will receive consideration as long as the positions remain unfilled. Further information can be obtained from Prof. Torbjörn Törnqvist (tor at tulane.edu<mailto:tor at tulane.edu>). Tulane University is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer committed to excellence through diversity.
