The Union of Concerned Scientists is a science-based advocacy nonprofit that puts rigorous, independent science to work to solve our planet's most pressing problems. We combine technical analysis and effective advocacy to create innovative, practical solutions for a healthy, safe, and sustainable future.

We are looking to fill two new positions working on the UCS Science Network. This network is home to thousands of scientists, engineers, economists, public health specialists, and other experts throughout the country who share the desire to put their knowledge to work in protecting our health, safety, and environment. The Science Network enables technical experts to advance the role of science in tackling today's most complex problems through a combination of action opportunities tailored to their unique skillsets, educational opportunities to be a more effective science communicator and advocate, and events that offer peer-based support. UCS is looking to fill two new positions to help grow and diversify the network and the services and opportunities it provides to members:

In Washington, DC
Science Network Assistant

The Science Network assistant is the glue that holds the network's team together. S/he provides administrative support for the Network, implements skills-building workshops, coordinates and tracks spending, and helps coordinate expert engagement opportunities throughout UCS. S/he also cultivates new network members, maintains the member database, staffs special events, and assists in building relationships with diverse communities. The ideal candidate will have strong administrative and organizational skills and the ability to track and keep tabs on multiple projects and initiatives.

Science Network Outreach Coordinator

The outreach coordinator conceptualizes and implements plans to grow and maintain the Science Network. S/he collaborates across the organization to ensure the Science Network is active in UCS campaigns, strengthens the mobilization and cultivation of the Science Network members. S/he also works to diversify ways scientists can engage on issues they care about through UCS, develops trainings and engagement opportunities uniquely tailored early career scientists, and works to ensure a diverse and inclusive Science Network. S/he is also responsible for developing leadership among Network members. The ideal candidate will be a strong organizer comfortable working with experts and people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
