Job Description

    *PLEASE NOTE*: This is a new, full-time two-year term position with
    possibility of extension.  Initial consideration will be given to
    applications received prior to 4:00 p.m. (MDT) on Wednesday,
    December 17, 2014. Thereafter, applications will be reviewed on an
    as-needed basis.

    NCAR - Climate and Global Dynamics Division (CGD)

    Relocation benefits paid per UCAR's relocation policy.

    If necessary, UCAR/NCAR will sponsor a work visa (e.g., H1B, etc.)
    to fill this position.

    *BASIC JOB FUNCTION*: The successful applicant will join an
    integrated assessment modeling (IAM) group that includes both social
    and natural scientists working on the climate change issue (see
    http://www.cgd.ucar.edu/ccr/iam/). The group has an organizational
    home within the Climate and Global Dynamics division (CGD) which
    carries out research on climate and land cover change. The IAM group
    develops and applies new socio-economic models, and linkages to
    climate models, that leverage NCAR's status as a world-leading
    climate modeling center.

    Supports research and scientific processes for the IAM group and its
    associated projects. Research tasks will support demographic
    modeling, integrated assessment modeling, and application of climate
    model output to impact assessment.

    *DUTIES INCLUDE*:

    Carries out data management and analysis tasks to support research
    in demographic modeling, integrated assessment modeling, and
    application of climate model output to impact assessment.

    Assists with identification, collection, and maintenance of a
    variety of socioeconomic data used in IAM and impact analysis
    including household surveys, census data, and data on energy, land
    use, and economics; carries out statistical analysis of these data,
    as well as of climate model output, to support IAM and impacts
    research; and contributes to reviews and assessment of relevant
    scientific literature.

    Provides support for a number of projects involving the IAM group,
    as well as collaborators across NCAR, and the university community.
    Assists with drafting of informal communications such as meeting
    reports and with editing of scientific products such as papers,
    proposals, and project reports; assists in organizing meetings
    including agendas and scientific background materials; manages
    communications among collaborators and with the public, including
    the content of IAM and project websites.

    *REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE*:

    Education and Experience:

      * Bachelor's (or equivalent) degree in environmental science,
        statistics, or related field;
      * and 2-3 years' experience in related field;
      * Master's degree preferred.
      * Experience with statistical analysis of socioeconomic and/or
        climate data and with the management of datasets.
      * Experience with statistical software, particularly R, Stata
        and/or SPSS.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

      * Familiarity with scientific issues related to human dimensions
        of climate change, especially impacts and adaptation.
        Willingness to become familiar with additional topics such as
        climate modeling in the context of interdisciplinary research.
      * Excellent skills in and experience with writing and editing for
        both scientific audiences and the public.
      * Ability to synthesize scientific literature on various aspects
        of human dimensions of climate change.
      * Excellent organizational skills, ability to keep track of
        multiple simultaneous tasks, ability to interact productively
        with a range of collaborators.
      * Ability to work as a member of a team and communicate well with
        others.
