NSF's AGS/Geospace Section Portfolio Review

From: Vladimir Papitashvili <vpapita at nsf.gov>

A review of the facilities, science programs, and other activities supported by Geospace Section (GS) within the National Science Foundation's Division of Atmospheric and Geospace Sciences has been approved by the NSF Advisory Committee for Geosciences. This Portfolio Review will examine the balance of activities supported by the Section, and its investments in science disciplines and respective facilities, to ensure the best scientific return for invested funds. The goal of the Review, and of any resulting adjustments of the GS portfolio, is to enable the continuation of U.S. scientific leadership in Geospace research and to make the best progress toward answering the central science questions highlighted in the recent (2013) National Research Council's (NRC) Decadal Survey Report, Solar and Space Physics - A Science for a Technological Society.

The Review will be carried out from March to October 2015 by a 13-member committee chaired by Professor William Lotko of Dartmouth College.

Additional information on the Review, including the full committee membership, is available at http://www.nsf.gov/geo/ags/geospace-portfolio-review-2015/.

The PR Committee invites input from the Geospace Research community for about 60-day period from March 30, 2015 through May 29, 2015 via email to <geoagsgsportfolio at nsf.gov>. Please limit comments/suggestions to 1-2 standard pages, and try to be clear-sighted and constructive.
