Westville Campus has vibrant research groups in a number of areas including quantum and space physics as well as interests in theoretical and observational cosmology including large-scale structure, galaxy evolution, the cosmic microwave background, instrumentation, and computational astrophysics. Candidates are invited to apply from all areas of astrophysics, cosmology and space physics.

Pietermaritzburg Campus has a long tradition in the areas of molecular optics, astrophysics, particle physics and computer simulation of classical and quantum systems in the condensed phase. Candidates are invited to apply from all areas of physics.



The incumbents will provide added strength to the School’s research and teaching programmes, and will be expected to contribute actively to research, supervision of postgraduate students, and teaching at undergraduate level, as well as contribute towards administration of the School. The incumbents will report to the relevant Academic Leader of Physics.



Minimum Requirements:

 A relevant PhD degree in Physics

 Experience in teaching physics at a tertiary institution

 Successful supervision of postgraduate students in physics (MSc and/or

PhD)

 A current and sustained research record as evidenced by publications in peer-

reviewed ISI/SAPSE accredited physics journals appropriate for the level appointment.
